Week 1 Overview
This week we look at Chapter 1: e-Learning: Promise and Pitfalls and Chapter 2: How Do People Learn from e-Courses?
Chapter 1 defines e-learning as training delivered on a computer (including CD-ROM, Internet, or intranet) that is designed to support individual learning or organized performance goals. E-courses developed primarily to provide information as well as those designed to build specific job-related skills are also discussed. E-learning courseware that reflect three views of learning: information acquisition, response-strengthening, and knowledge construction, are distinguished.

Chapter 2 provides an overview of cognitive learning theory by describing the memory systems and processes involved in learning. It also summarizes important features of experimental studies to help you interpret the relevance and applicability of research to your work.

Week 1 Activities:
- Introduce yourself in the class Discussion Forum.
- Read Chapters 1 and 2.
- Post your response to the DQs for Chapters 1 and 2 on the class Discussion Forum.
- Participate in this week’s EdTech Blog discussion.
- Begin E-Learning Project: Part 1 – E-Learning Project. Email instructor your proposed E-Learning topic idea. Due: January 17, 2021
- Begin Cooperative Project – Cooperative Team Memberships Assigned.
- Register for a Second Life account and create avatar.
- Complete the Plagiarism Tutorial. Email post-test results to instructor. Due: January 13, 2021
